OFN (Optical Finger Navigation) module developed by ATLab has been applied to
remote controller of Samsung Smart TV that was introduced early this year. ATLab
started developing OFN in 2003, and got new sales record this year since first
shipping was made in 2008. This OFN module uses ATLab’s 3rd generation OFN
sensor in which both a capacitive sensor and an ambient light sensor are
included. This sensor was optimized to performance of human finger operation
based on cumulative knowhow acquired from versatile market experience of optical
mouse sensors in PC industry. The dominant characteristic differentiated from the
PC optical mouse sensor is that OFN sensor is able to operate in moisture
environment caused by a wet finger without any performance deterioration. ATLab
has 24 US registered patents, 35 Chinese registered patents, and 30 Taiwanese
registered patents. More patents are still under examination.
